the role: sensus, a xylem brand, seeks to hire a product specialist, na water communications who will be responsible for providing technical support and assistance to internal and external stakeholders, as well as day-to-day support of the product managers for communications. In this role, the product specialist, na water communications will assist the product line managers in developing new product designs, sizes, market-driven modifications and assist in the development of marketing strategies around these product improvements. He/she will further:
* assist product line managers in developing sales/demand forecasts for given product lines.
* prepare quotes on non-price book items for marketing and sales teams.
* recommend product improvement and additions to existing product lines based on knowledge of problem resolution and customer requests.
* answer customer inquiries regarding product application and performance.
* prepare catalogs, instruction manuals, and marketing/promotional literature for customers and sales personnel.
* work with vertical marketing to keep online information on pricing, product data, etc., up to date and relevant with current product lines.
* act as one of the department’s liaison to the engineering, sales, finance, and operations departments involved in key processes.
* participate as a member of product development team(s) to develop, manufacture and release new products for assigned product segment.
* perform all other duties or assignments as directed by the product manager.
* participate in xylem watermark volunteer activities.
additional areas of support:
product strategy
* assist in the development of product roadmap(s) covering positioning and value proposition, per product line, to serve as input into product development resource allocation, business development, and communications.
* support the development of a multi-year roadmap for the na product lines including; new product development, value improvements, product introductions, ongoing marketing, product support, and service.
* support the xpd process by assisting the product managers with driving the tollgate process: assisting in developing the business case, par, product specification, etc. with the understanding of customer and market needs.
* support competitive mapping of strengths and weaknesses of major competitors and understand their “go to market” strategy.
sales and profitability
* assist with s&op forecast for na water communication product sales and margin plan.
* provide support for strategic pricing guidelines across markets and within the overall vertical, including price lists, as well as specific product/segment-focused efforts.
lifecycle management
* support the product managers in executing entire product life cycle through phase-out, all while keeping the product line competitive.
* identify and execute value engineering opportunities to ensure optimization of the product lines.
minimum qualifications:
* engineering, business, or marketing preferred relevant experience.
* familiarity with radio equipment and rf network design principles and practice.
* demonstrate excellent computer, communication, presentation, management, and analytical skills. Be able to resolve difficult technical and business issues. Be a self-starter with high motivation to achieve goals.
* strong interpersonal, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in order to effectively work with customers, business partners, staff, and management from a variety of skill levels as well as different authority levels.
* ability to understand technical issues and understand impact on projects, and effectively communicate these issues and impact to direct reports as well as other project stakeholders.
* flexibility in terms of dealing with changing priorities and dealing with multiple projects simultaneously.
* the ability to have fun.
desired job qualifications:
* a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or marketing is preferred but not required.
* experience developing products for the utility industry, specifically experience developing water meters and battery powered communication products.
* experience developing products with radio transceivers.
* prior product specialist or product management experience.
