the vehicle operations plant risk manager (prm) will provide overall supervision to a team of plant safety engineers as well as strategic guidance and operational support to the assigned facility. Successful managers in this role will be highly motivated self-starters who will achieve results by balancing focused tactical execution against an overall strategic plan. The prm must have proven experience motivating and interacting with production and skilled trade employees, aligning and engaging leadership, verifying hazard controls, recognizing and managing risk, and building talent. The prm must also be competent in developing and supporting a high-performing safety team as well as elevating the focus, skills, knowledge, and performance across the assigned facility.
it is critical that candidates operate as business leaders who balance safe operations and business performance and demands. This role exists to provide technical guidance to the facility as well as establish consistent, world-class safety control measures. The prm will interact with various stakeholders within the assigned facility, including management, union representatives, security personnel, and hourly employees to balance safe operations, and uphold the sos principles by motivating and interacting with all employees and engaging leaders.
this position reports directly to the fom regional safety and security manager (rssm) or to the plant manager.
* this position reports directly to the rssm and is dotted line to the facility plant manager or assistant plant manager and has supervisory responsibility for the safety engineers.
* develop, communicate, and execute safety strategic action plan across the facility’s new initiatives, standards, regulations, safety maturity model, significant incidents, and management directives.
* work with multiple stakeholders internal and external to ford, including stps, na manufacturing safety, union vome/ptme, medical, ergonomics, ford land, corporate safety, ersi, cle, security, fire, mp&l, global investigations, company suppliers, and vendors as they work in and around the facilities and the site, ensuring they adhere to applicable safety standards and guidelines.
* serve as a coach and subject matter expert resource to organizational leadership i.e. Ocm, providing data and information to drive safety within the facility and the site as a whole.
* verify hazard controls and manage risk, including proactively driving teams to anticipate, recognize, and evaluate hazards and associated risks.
* establish and monitor leading and lagging metrics to help the plant reduce injuries, including sos data and multiple plant operating scorecards, dashboards, and safety 4.0 systems.
* understand, interpret, and communicate relevant corporate safety standards, mexican norms, and specifications to ensure safety compliance for the various operations and processes.
* provide technical and professional guidance to foster a high-performing team of safety engineers. Ensure safety resource balancing across the majority of production shifts, providing partnership to the union safety organization and safety support to the facility.
* actively support project safety management for construction and machine installation activities on assigned programs, as applicable.
* work with the respective facility l&d to ensure appropriate and timely delivery of safety training programs to each of the plant departments for the hourly and salary workforce, including corporate and legal mandated safety training.
* support/lead in the investigation of safety incidents/near misses/lessons learned and update standards/requirements as needed to prevent recurrence.
* present the knowledge, confidence, and ability to take immediate and appropriate actions in regard to establishing and maintaining appropriate safeguarding measures.
* support internal/external auditing activities where necessary and assist the facility with appropriate corrective action implementation including procuring funding.
* act as a support in facility emergency response team management and training activities, including evacuation situations with security and medical team.
* advise management as to compliance with the local and national collective bargaining agreements regarding safety topics.
* support/facilitate/standardize safety process review board meetings and all safety meetings.
* support and lead the fom and corporate sap defined and assure the implementation in all the facility.
* active participation in the fom or corporate safety innovations; safety 4.0, data analytics, black belt projects, new safety models or strategies, etc.
* lead efforts in the assigned facility to engage production and skilled trade hourly employees in applicable safety processes.
* provide guidance to the facility to elevate employee ownership, culture, increase the effectiveness of safety committees, and create or sustain multiple avenues of communication and feedback.
* serve as a coach and expert resource to the plant leaders, safety leaders, and operating committee members (ocm) on safety, communications, and programs related to occupational health & safety.
* provide technical and professional guidance on growth and development plans for each safety team member.
* coach and mentor early-career safety professionals and development candidates.
* conduct or take part in performance reviews with plant safety professionals.
* collaborate with site manufacturing leaders and human resource professionals to accelerate performance of safety leaders and team members to contribute to the overall strategy and specific critical outcomes for the business.

responsibilities
experience: successful candidates should have a bachelor in safety, engineering or related field. Work experience of at least 5+ years with direct responsibility for all aspects of the safety management in a manufacturing environment. This role requires “hands-on” experience in manufacturing safety management and manufacturing operations.
* at least 2 years of experience in production area as process coach or team manager.
* ability and flexibility to work in a team setting and be able to lead a team.

* thorough knowledge of state and national ohs laws and codes of practice and operational knowledge of corporate safety standards and their application to manufacturing.

the successful candidate must also show direct experience in at least one of the following four disciplines:
* operations leadership – direct functional oversight of people, performance management, period spend and budget oversight, scheduling, conflict resolution, and capital projects.
* hazard identification/risk management – experience with design safety review, capital project installation, risk assessment with hazard recognition methodologies, or risk reduction oversight are examples of key skills.
* people development – experience in any aspect of talent acquisition, talent development, or labor relations activities. Examples are contract negotiations, campus recruiting, oversight of growth and development plans, conflict resolution, or mentoring.
* energy control/power lockout (ecpl) – direct, hands-on experience in managing employee interactions with energized equipment (lockout) and electrical distribution systems (electrical safety).
