ab consulting gss is a u.s.based supplier of contract engineering talent to the automotive industry. A major client is seeking a project support electrical engineer to ensure the electrical utilities services and equipment setting and installation portions of the project are conducted to quality according to the drawings and specifications at its existing facility in el salto, jalisco mexico.

position overview:
- work with investor/builder, construction manager, and the client global engineering facility team in akron, oh usa to ensure the electrical utilities services and equipment setting and installation portions of the project are conducted to quality according to the drawings and specifications. Main goal.
- in general, perform the role of the "owner's engineer" as identified in all electrical utilities services and equipment related specifications. Here are some important items included in the specifications for the owner's engineer:
- assist the construction manager to manage all aspects of the electrical scope of the project and facilities electrical equipment installation.
- interface with the contractors to manage risks and ensure that electrical work is completed safely, to specification, on time, and on-budget.
- thoroughly understand the design details, budget estimate, job scope, and schedule.
- read and thoroughly understand all electrical bid packages and drawings
- lead contractor meetings as required
- participate in sub-contractor meetings
- effectively manage communications between the primary contractor, the client corporate engineers, and others to coordinate the work and resolve issues.
- review and approve progress invoices and change requests.
- assure that all electrical work meets the client global engineering requirements and standards.
- check key deliverables such as scope of supply, quality, workmanship, and functionality to ensure that systems are ready for use.
- perform administrative tasks including scheduling, budget management & cost control, weekly reports, etc.
- verify that all facilities equipment drawings, operation & maintenance manuals and spare part lists have been received
- coordinate facilities equipment and electrical infrastructure commissioning activities with the contractors, equipment suppliers, and ge engineers.
- sign-off on new electrical systems and manage pending work lists.
- collect and maintain "as-built" design information
- communicates discipline specific field related critical information to the construction manager (the client). This includes being the main conduit of information between the local field team (mg - investor/builder), design engineer(s) (leif - engineering company working for mg), and the respective the client global engineering team(s).
- provide input about site safety conditions.
principal responsibilities:
- review the construction drawings provided by investor/builder/engineer of record, specifications and other released files. Perform actions as directed in engineering releases. Report any design issues to the construction manager and ge corporate electrical engineer for evaluation and correction.
- understand the project objectives for the facilities electrical equipment being installed.
- be aware of mechanical and civil/structural facilities requirements. Help with mechanical and civil/structural engineers to coordinate civil, mechanical, and electrical construction activities.
- report on progress. Check revisions (red line drawings) for use in developing as-built drawings and documentation.
- look for solutions to problems and provide advice.
- review bid documents, purchase orders and supplier quotations - verify that installation and performance standards are met.
- verify field change orders (fco). Validate quantity of labor, materials, and equipment submitted by contractor.
personal skills/attributes:
- working knowledge of english language is preferred.
- understands, follows without exception and continuously seeks guidance on the client rules for ethical conduct and anti-corruption practices
- must keep internal the client customers satisfied and maintain a high level of quality so all aspects of the assigned work are completed with minimum disruption to the production requirements of the corporation. Must be able to work with floor level construction and manufacturing associates.
- must be able to represent the client in a positive manner when dealing with outside vendors, consultants and construction contractors. Must have strong negotiating skills to deal with construction contractors.
