major function:
under the direction of mexico operations and with the aid of the plant management team; develops, recommends and implements policies, procedures, budgets and operating objectives for the manufacturing of quality, cost effective, on time toro products.
as a member of the director’s team, helps develop and implement longer range, strategic plans for the manufacturing group.
what will you do?
in order to grow and build a successful career with the toro company, you will be responsible for:
supervision:
* supervises the managers of all operations functions – manufacturing assembly, materials, manufacturing engineering, painting engineering, human resources, finance, quality control, and welding operations.
* adequately staffs the plant management team with qualified and competent personnel and ensures training as required for an effective succession program.
* ensures that all job descriptions are accurate and up to date.
* completes annual performance reviews for direct reports and ensures that all plant performance reviews are completed and timely.
manufacturing:
* develops production schedules that balance economic order quantities with targeted inventory goals while meeting internal and external customer delivery requirements and fill rates. Coordinates plastics molding planning issues and concerns with key vendors and internal suppliers.
* directs, approves and administers operating budgets, capital plans, manufacturing processes, manpower plans, product transfers, cost improvement plans and labor standards to ensure lowest cost consistent with quality standards within operating budgets.
* develops and implements quality plans to ensure quality consistent with toro standards.
* provides a safe and healthy workplace environment, meeting all safety, environmental and health requirements by local, state and federal regulations. Promotes safety first and no harm policies.
* in conjunction with management staff develops lean manufacturing strategies and metrics.
* directs the development and measurement of energy conservation programs, environmental health and safety programs, fire protection, security programs to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations in both u.s.
* insures all customs and environmental regulations are met in accordance with mexican legal guidelines.
employee and community relations:
* maintains and promotes a positive labor/management relationship. Administers labor policies and procedures using the advice and counsel of the corporate human resources department whenever applicable.
* takes the lead in negotiating or developing wage rates and working conditions while keeping senior management aware of competitive needs and staying within senior management guidelines.
* maintains good and consistent communications with all employees to keep them well abreast of facility, division and company plans and objectives as well as performance to same.
* maintains a strong and effective community relations program.
planning:
* in conjunction with director of border operations develops and maintains a facility “long range” plan to include strategies, goals, action plans and measurements.
* develops and executes an annual business plan to include capital acquisitions, manufacturing processes, manpower plans, (direct and indirect) and overhead expenses ensuring achievement of financial, quality, inventory and productivity goals.
* participates in planning overall policies, strategies, programs and operations of the manufacturing arm of the operations business unit.
working relationships:
must have strong oral and written communication skills. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work closely and productively with subordinates, peers and higher levels of management.
what do you need?
to be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
* bachelor's degree in engineering or related field. Demonstrated understanding of the principles and applications associated with manufacturing operations, quality control, engineering, and maintenance is required. Master's degree is a plus.
* ten (10) plus years of progressive manufacturing experience.
* strong leadership, team building, organizational development, coaching and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate people, assess and develop employee skills.
* excited to be hands on, working with the production team on continuous improvement, process optimization, and process development projects. Driven with a high internal standard for personal and facility performance.
* willing and able to make facility level decisions independently on a regular basis, generally consulting with the director of operations on decisions that may affect timelines, profit margins, other departments, and capitalized projects.
* excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance production. Works well with ambiguity.
* must have strong oral and written communication skills, must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work closely with subordinates, peers and higher levels of management. Effective in working within a highly matrixed organization.
* highly motivated, results oriented with the ability to work independently, under pressure, manage and prioritize multiple initiatives concurrently, attend to details, and meet deadlines.
* holds self and others to a high standard of personal and facility performance.
* understanding and practical application of financial data combined with strong analytical and decision-making skills.
* proven experience in positive culture strategies.
