About you:
the success at this position will be achieved by setting stretching goals and driving improvements seeking new technologies and best in class practices across areas of sustainability, environment practices & regulations and hazmat transportation within our conversion sites, our different offices & our supply chain logistics & planning organization.
About the role:
for the environmental & sustainability excellence manager, this includes:
- ensure mexico supply properly reports environmental performance and align with other regulatory or global reporting and permit requirements.
- communicate monthly environmental performance against established important metrics and raise environmental compliance risks as appropriate.
- lead and drive standard processes and standardization across mexico supply in all areas of environmental management.
- continued implementation of mexico’s supply environmental sustainability strategy and roadmap to achieve annual and long-term sustainability goals. Lead supply in the delivery of roadmaps for carbon neutral operations through energy efficiency and fuel conversion and roadmaps to leading water efficiency.
- liaise with the global sustainability team & global governance team to ensure our region follows the global standards, share best practices, and represent our region
- head up the environmental portion of the independent assurance audit program.
- assure mexico supply sites meet new and revised environmental legislation.
- carry out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce the organization’s environmental risks and financial costs, leading risk and contingency management.
- operate as part of an integrated management team, managing expectations and bringing up issues as required.
- connect and align environmental management systems with ehsq (governance) systems, to continually improve our delivery of critical metrics.
- on call to respond to emergencies at the plant.
Experience required/skills/capabilities/languages:
- university/college degree required with a major in environmental science or engineering preferred.
- 10 years of experience leading environmental compliance & development, and at least 3 of them in a manufacturing plant, including union and non-union facilities.
- 5 years’ experience handling environmental sustainability.
- 3 years’ experience ehs auditing is plus.
- 10 years’ experience in leed, iso 14000 certifications, greenfields and brownfields.
- knowledge of risk-based approach to lead ehs a plus.
- excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to influence a wide range of internal customers from senior managers to production employees.
- knowledgeable of epa and environment mexico regulations required. Knowledge of dot and osha a plus.
- good at networking to establish excellent relationships at all levels.
- demonstrated ability to implement environmental programs and drive sustainability initiatives at plant level
- ability to travel approximately 15% of time but up to 50% at times
- a consistent record in handling people and or small teams, projects and cross-functional team working
- engagement and communication skills
- experience of mentoring and influencing key partners for success.
