As a supervisor - accounting, you will supervise accounting staff in the day-to-day operations of one or more accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, ledger maintenance, revenue and asset accounting, as well as associated analysis and reporting. You will oversee the calculation, posting, and verification of financial data for use in maintaining accounting and statistical records. You will maintain the integrity of accounting records by ensuring that staff complies with organization accounting policies and procedures. You will make day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department.
responsibilities:
1. develop operational plans to achieve results and ensure alignment with company goals and objectives.
2. set goals for work group, manage execution, and measure results.
3. compile and analyze financial information to calculate and prepare journal entries and statements, and assist with monthly closing, including preparing accounting reports.
4. verify accuracy of data processing for accounting information.
5. ensure general ledger accounts are understood, clean, and reconciled monthly.
6. research and explain general ledger account variances to trend, budget, and prior year.
7. manage day-to-day operation of the team responsible for assigned accounting function, including assigning, reviewing, and evaluating work.
8. document procedures and identify and implement process improvements.
9. oversee applicable accounting system including system enhancements and changes.
10. resolve account discrepancies.
11. ensure supporting tasks are completed accurately, consistently, and on time.
12. select, manage, evaluate, and develop staff. Challenge employees, build effective teams, develop organizational capacity, and provide staff with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities.
13. ensure policies and procedures comply with sarbanes oxley legislation, including coordinating internal and external audit requests, and ensuring established policies and procedures are followed.
14. prepare monthly reconciliations and summary reports.
15. answer verbal and written inquiries, including resolving complaints.
16. assist with and coordinate special accounting projects.
qualifications:
1. associates’ degree in accounting or related field required; bachelors’ degree preferred.
2. 3 years required, 5 years preferred of accounting experience.
3. 2 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
4. knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
5. understanding of accounting theory, and application of principles and practices.
6. familiarity with principles and practices of financial record keeping and reporting.
7. ability to operate office equipment including computers and adding machines.
8. skill in preparing accurate and complete financial reports.
9. ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
10. skill in organizing work for timely completion.
11. ability to research and analyze various information.
12. strong verbal and written communication skills.
