*role purpose*
- support the chief of staff, risk and compliance lam/mx head driving strategic initiatives across the function and maintain proper risk & compliance governance across lam.
- assist the chief of staff, risk and compliance lam/mx head in committees/forums.
- deliver an effective reporting capability at regional and, where deemed necessary, country level which enables the functions to deliver oversight to relevant governance committees.
- collaborate constructively to ensure that the required services are delivered as agreed and to be the focal point for engagement with other sub functions.
- ensure that reports to present at relevant governance committees provide an accurate and balanced view of the effectiveness of the risk & compliance control framework and escalate material issues on a timley basis.
*impact on the business*
- oversee the critical risk & compliance policies and systems that impact lam and ensure that the group’s exposure to matters is managed in a commercially sensitive, practical and cost effective manner.
- provide advice and support on regulatory conduct and cos matters to senior management, compliance and other colleagues.
*customer / stakeholders*
- reporting to chief of staff, risk & compliance lam/mx head.
- ensure that senior management are appropriately advised of all material risk & compliance related matters relating to lam.
- manage and foster a strong relationship with all relevant regulators in relation to the activities of lam and ensure timely disclosure of relevant information.
- ensure that positive relationships are maintained with other external stakeholders relevant to the risk & compliance agenda.
*leadership and teamwork*
- maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with senior business managers and risk & compliance colleagues at the regional level and those in other regions and businesses.
- create an environment for the delivery of consistent performance measurement, training, career management and succession planning across the lam risk & compliance capability.
- establish a strategy for the sharing regulatory conduct and cos risks related risk&compliance knowledge and best practice across lam and the wider risk & compliance function and group.
*operational effectiveness and control*
- agree and oversee the implementation, embedding and monitoring of the adherence to the risk & compliance governance in lam
requirements
- seasoned professional with experience in risk & compliance roles, governance or oversight of function in risk & compliance.
- detailed and extensive knowledge of the hsbc group structure, its business and personnel, and hsbc’s corporate culture.
- significant experience in the financial services industry, preferably within a large financial institution.
- track record of delivery of significant change agenda.
- proven ability to manage multiple issues and priorities and demonstrated judgment and poise in challenging circumstances.
- lateral thinker with an ability to interpret and solve complex issues.
- significant leadership experience and an experienced strategic thinker.
- excellent communication and inter-personal skills, with experience of dealing with executives at all levels.
- ability to develop practical, cost effective solutions to complex global issues.
- a legal or formal accountancy qualification or professional background in a relevant risk or audit.
