Position overview the senior database administrator isa highly skilled and crucial position, responsible for supportingthe performance, security and reliability of our database systems.this role involves upgrades, updates, patches, migrations,troubleshooting, performance monitoring, presenting information tomanagement, providing complex database solutions, and recommendingnew architectures and technologies.
the senior dba will workclosely with cross-functional departments to support business needsrelated to database systems.
key responsibilities - providetechnical leadership on database systems and solutions and act asthe final technical escalation point for all database-relatedissues.
- manage, maintain, implement and support microsoft sqlserver databases in a high-availability environment hosted in thecloud, using always-on availability groups, mirroring andreplication.
- set and maintain high standards and best practicesfor database systems.
- conduct research, analysis, monitoring andprofiling to improve database performance, functionality,recoverability and availability.
- ensure data integrity, qualityand security across all database systems.
- participate in thedisaster recovery planning and testing.
- architect and maintaindatabases for optimal performance and scalability.
- cross-trainpeers and team members and provide guidance on complex databaseissues.
- refine, automate and document dba processes throughdiagrams, sops and scripts.
- manage and tune database monitoringsystems.
- share 24x7x365 support for our business-criticalsystems.
- provide basic support for postgresql and cosmos db .
-participate in development code reviews to educate on sql codingstandards and best practices.
- evaluate, test, and recommend newtechnologies and tools.
- collaborate with developers, bi,management and other it staff to ensure database systemreliability, performance and provide solutions to complex datachallenges.
basic qualifications - bachelor's degree in computerscience, information technology, or a related field.
- minimum of5 years of experience as a database administrator.
- proficient inenglish, both written and spoken.
- excellent analytical, strategicthinking, and problem-solving skills.
- expertise in microsoft sqlserver including always on, replication, mirroring and performancetuning.
- familiarity with azure cloud services and experiencemanaging databases in virtual machines within azure.
- knowledge indatabase monitoring tools.
- strong communication skills and theability to mentor other team members.
- familiarity with databasesecurity best practices, high availability and disaster recovery.
-understanding of etl vs elt concepts.
- understanding of oltp vsolap, bi tools and their integration with databases.
preferredqualifications - experience in relational database administrationincluding ms sql server, azure sql managed instance, azure sqldatabase, and postgresql.
- experience with powershell or otherscripting languages.
- experience with database migration to azuresql.
- experience deploying and maintaining nosql databasetechnologies such as cosmosdb .
- experience in architectingdatabases for near real-time reporting.
