about the opportunity
as a manager of cloud engineering within ellucian cloud, you will be responsible for day-to-day operations of a high-performance engineering team. You will lead a team of highly skilled engineers to build tools, automation, and monitoring in support of improving operations and reducing manual work. Additionally, the engineering team and manager will be expected to partner with other internal teams within cloud and r&d to drive improvements in operations and monitoring with a focus around uptime and improving customer experience.
where you will make an impact
1. leadership and management of day-to-day operations for the engineering team
2. monitoring and reporting on work delivery against established internal and external sla’s and internal slo’s
3. drive a team with a devops culture towards improved overall service through the development of solutions to common problems through automation and code-defined processes
4. drive adoption and enhancements to ellucian's monitoring platforms
5. improve on-call and incident resolution times by designing and implementing automatic recovery solutions
6. participate in problem management with a focus on uptime impacting issues
7. collaborate with other cloud teams to ensure customer success
8. understand, simplify, and automate process to improve systems
9. act as a mentor for other cloud colleagues by:
1. training workshops on monitoring and automation best practices
2. driving visibility into the environment
3. participating as a subject matter expert on process improvement, training, and tool development.
10. be hands-on in high level work with the team and provide systems architecture guidance and advice
11. present metrics and performance data to the cloud leadership team, cloud delivery team and customer experience organization leadership teams as needed.
what you will bring
1. proven professional and technical experience with 8+ years of industry experience
2. 5+ years of experience leading an operational team
3. experience managing and implementing cloud solutions on amazon web services (aws), microsoft azure, or google cloud
4. proven technical and functional knowledge of erp or complex business applications
5. proven experience implementing platform as a service models and documenting slos/slis
6. proven experience implementing infrastructure as code (iac) tools such as terraform, cloudformation, or ansible
7. proven experience implementing configuration management through tools such as chef, ansible, rundeck, lambda
8. proven ability to lead across the business in order to achieve successful customer and company outcomes
9. experience managing a team toward defined goals, objectives and directives
10. exceptional leadership, presentation, time management, work management and prioritization skills are a must.
11. strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills
12. strong ability to adapt and learn quickly
13. superior presentation, verbal and written skills, excellent customer service, as well as high attention to detail
