the role
reporting to the chief privacy officer (cpo), this role is a primary legal contact for the procurement and trust and safety teams.
this is a critical role within the privacy team that provides counsel on security and privacy requirements for processors of lumen's personal information and advises on law enforcement requests from lumen.
the main responsibilities
- supporting the overall implementation of a strategic and comprehensive privacy program for lumen
- provide privacy legal advice concerning business transactions, including reviewing and negotiating 3rd party suppliers and business partners, performing privacy-related legal due diligence and drafting and negotiating and applicable privacy-related provisions
- review data transfer impact assessments from vendors and advise on sufficiency of any existing or required supplementary measures.
- provide advice and counsel to senior leadership and internal clients on privacy and it security matters affecting the company
- review law enforcement requests for personal information, access for legal sufficiency
- work with the trust & safety team on lumen's semi-annual transparency report and other trust center matters
- support the cpo in conducting reviews of the company's privacy program to ensure it reflects changes in laws, regulatory, and company policy
- developing and delivering ongoing privacy training to team members, internal clients, and management
- act as lead on investigations into personal information incidents
- assist with special projects as assigned
- conducting privacy and data protection impact assessments
- a passion for data privacy, with prior privacy experience
- j.d.
degree and licensed to practice law by the state bar in the state w the attorney is located
- 6+ years of relevant legal experience
- an appreciation for drafting and negotiating transactional documents, to include data processing agreements and use of standard contractual clauses
- ability to efficiently manage a high volume of complex and critical work with urgency and with limited supervision
- proactively identify issues and suggests and implements solutions
- prior experience with cpni rules, calea, ecpa, tcpa, red flags rule and fisa preferred
- organizational savvy and notable business acumen dealing with risk management and compliance
- cipp/us, /e, or cipm certifications preferred, but not required
- prior experience with state and federal privacy laws

this position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation.
