As a part of johnson controls global products organization, the global category manager is a high visibility position and member of the electrical and electronics, direct materials category management team responsible for developing and driving global category strategies across all products businesses ensuring our products businesses source and procure material from preferred suppliers at the best price and the performance of our supply base meets johnson controls supplier quality and performance requirements utilizing supply base management, negotiations, and contract management methods.
in this role you will provide the supply base and material supply continuity needed to support growth and profit strategies at johnson controls.
you will work in a high volume and velocity business environment with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that our category strategies represent the full potential value for the company, maintain key supplier relationships, and provide solutions to needs of the products businesses and procurement execution teams while managing global, regional, and local sourcing events and programs for both existing and new products.
you will develop, communicate, and implement comprehensive category strategies for assigned electrical or electronic categories and will be responsible for meeting procurement kpis and business objectives including cost reduction, working capital improvement, risk management, and service/quality improvement to johnson controls while managing odm, oem, and contract manufacturing supplier relationships.
you will be expected to develop and maintain supplier relationships at an executive level and lead escalation efforts when needed to secure supply or resolve supplier related issues as they arise.

responsibilities and how you will do it…the scope of this position is to oversee approximately $200-400m in purchases of direct materials for johnson controls and to coordinate and execute category strategies in partnership with key internal stakeholders.lead collaboration with project teams, technical disciplines, and functional leaders to create sourcing strategies in alignment with business objectives.develop, maintain, and implement best-in-class strategic sourcing strategies and builds strong partnerships with strategic suppliers.conduct supplier identification, evaluation, negotiation, selection, contracting and associated implementation for in-scope categories.identify and manage category-focused projects via total cost analysis to deliver best in class results (sourcing, demand management, process audit, etc.
).manage the profiling, execution, governance, and key decisions related to the category, supporting subcategory line items and/or segments in accordance with procurement policies and guidelines.lead regional and global ideation and roadmap sessions with regional category managers and buyers.maintain accurate savings records in wave (enterprise-wide project management and reporting tool) and execute projects on-time and in accordance with transformation office guidelines and policies.serve as an escalation point of contact for internal stakeholders and suppliers – you are responsible for overall continuity of supply and active risk mitigation.
project manage with plants to escalate and resolve quality, delivery, capacity, and other issues with your respective suppliers as needed.lead and project manage mbbp (materials best business practice) and ci (continuous improvement) teams for assigned categories driving best product, process and footprint.lead supplier contract negotiations, supplier selection and contract lifecycle management.act as a center of excellence for the respective categories through complete understanding of industry, competition, future technologies, and innovations etc.support make vs buy decisions.meet or exceed profit plan, trade working capital, supplier rationalization, and other procurement kpis related to categories: cost savings, raw material economics, quality, supplier rationalization, lcc % content and other agreed objectives.lead monthly or quarterly category reviews with dotted line global category team across the product business units and regions.effectively plan, communicate, manage, and work in a team environment.
