*the role*:
the role will focus on trading of physical power products for the mexican market, and position management for the shell energy mexico (“sem”) desk.
You will work closely with other power traders on the south power desk, origination teams in mexico and operate within the trading guidelines each day to optimize your portfolio.
*responsibilities*:
- work with origination to price transactions and build proposals
- help build the power commercial strategy
- being all transactions physical in nature, the power trader will be responsible to determine which type of transaction the origination team needs to originate in order to build a balanced portfolio
- on top of trading responsibilities, and because the nature of the mexican market, this position will also have origination functions, which will require the trader to interact heavily with counterparties to design transactions structures, negotiate contract terms, follow up on opportunities
- originate, develop, and cultivate internal and external relationships across multiple levels
- work closely with the origination team in mexico to execute physical transactions and support the growth aspirations of management.
- assist in delivering fundamentals, and work with the fundamentals teams to build a view of the mexican market
- review assumptions of the physical model
- approve or reject changes to the model
- challenge the fundamentals team view
- collaborate with functional groups within shell energy including:
- accounting, customer support, risk control, and gas scheduling to facilitate the tie-out and settlement processes for daily p/l reporting and exposure reporting.
- work with credit to ensure proper customer lines are adhered to and regular updates performed.
- contribute to and ensure alignment with sem’s overall goals and strategies.
What we need from you:
- must have legal authorization to work in mexico on a full-time basis
- has extensive knowledge of the mexican power grid, specifically the sin
- bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, business, finance, engineering, mathematics or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Master’s degree in accounting or finance preferred.
- minimum (5 to 7+) years’ experience in the power markets with trading expertise in regional energy producers and markets.
- knowledge of and adherence to industry compliance and regulatory rules
- thrives in a high-pressure multi-tasking environment where time sensitive tasks/projects must be consistently delivered with high quality.
- ability to travel constantly to usa
- feels comfortable speaking with c level executives
- ability to build long lasting relationships with clients
- ability to work in a fast-paced environment with time sensitive deadlines.
- ability to make quick and well-reasoned decisions is critical.
- demonstrate grasp of economic reasoning skills.
