*job purpose*:
to supervise a support group responsible for providing technical assistance and required craft services to support manufacturing and plant operations.
*job duties*:
this is a supervisory position responsible for assigned maintenance including the various trades, preventive maintenance programs, electronic repair and central maintenance functions.
The incumbent directs a staff comprised of skilled tradesmen and other technical personnel specializing in a particular field. Work assignments are according to craft and type of problem encountered. Schedules workload to expedite urgent work, to maintain an efficient flow of work in the area and based on conditions within the shop area. Provides leadership to craftsmen to meet the expectations of customers and the goals of the organization. Incumbent creates goals, plans and values to improve quality and timeliness of repairs in order to keep operations running smoothly. May also monitor and perform repairs needed for all building utilities, heating and ventilation systems, grounds, etc. Works with and monitors performance of contracted services.
Maintains material inventory and maintains appropriate records of special tools or repair parts and coordinates major project work to ensure completion as scheduled. Recommends alternatives when problems arise and coordinates repair work according to urgency. Provides specialized craft work and services necessary to adequately meet desired build, repair or rework demands. Uses skills and experience in problem solving to maintain equipment and systems, to install new equipment and works with engineering to design or redesign systems as needed. Coordinates construction work and maintains work schedules and job files for the most effective utilization of personnel and equipment. Ensures proper supervision and direction of assigned maintenance shop functions and develops, trains and motivates staff capable of performing skilled crafts. Provides technical support to diagnose and resolve maintenance/repair problems. Writes practices and procedures for maintenance related activities and provides a source of expertise in areas that are necessary in completion of objectives. Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, hazardous materials, ergonomics, affirmative action, etc. in performing assigned duties.
The position supervises or manages a work unit of primarily management and salaried employees where planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reviewing work of subordinates is required. The position is responsible for expense budgets, capital forecasts and expenditures, and all personnel issues in the area including performance evaluations of subordinates. The position often confronts complex issues and problems that require careful analysis and diagnosis. Problems are often unique and solutions can require original approaches. The incumbent may modify existing approaches or develop new solutions. The incumbent establishes and then monitors general policies and guidelines for projects under his/her control, to ensure specific management goals are met and desired results are achieved. The position impacts key quality goals including continuous improvement, delivery timeliness, equipment accuracy, operational efficiency, cost savings, process capability, part quality, iso and class a certification, etc.
*background/experience*:
- university degree in manufacturing or engineering
- fluent english
- previous supervisory experience and at least three to four years manufacturing experience.
- requires a thorough knowledge of the planning system, manufacturing operations, facilities, methods, and tooling
- use personal and machinery safety equipment, according to the procedure and established standards
