job duties and responsibilities
* supporting the testing team manager in the execution of lab test work, on time, on budget and within scope
* assist in developing standard operating procedures (sops) in the lab.
* complete laboratory testing procedures according to standards
* assist in the day-to-day operations of the lab.
* assist in the construction/setup, maintenance, and operations of the various testing equipment.
* assist in the specification and procurement of new laboratory equipment.
* prepare, participate in writing and/or reviewing of laboratory data and reports.
* assist in proposal generations.
* attend site visits.
* other duties as assigned.
supervisory responsibilities
this position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
employees are expected to adhere to metso’s established leadership principles.
qualifications
education and experience
* relevant degree from an accredited college, university, or technical school.
* csa and/or ccil laboratory testing certifications an asset.
* 1 - 5 years of experience in laboratory testing.
* experience in the mining industry and specifically paste and tailings an asset.
knowledge, skills, abilities
* knowledge and practical work experience in laboratory testing a must.
* strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental concerns.
* good analytical and critical thinking skills.
* attention to detail with emphasis on quality.
* strong organizational and time management skills.
* high level communication skills.
* high stress tolerance and good tolerance of ambiguity and surprises: ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and coordinate the input of others in these circumstances.
* ability to work effectively with a range of partners and stakeholders.
* ability to work in a discreet manner, maintaining confidentiality.
* ability to travel up to 50% of time.
