position summary
the project management office (pmo) project manager is responsible for leading the disciplined execution of critical organizational projects by leading global cross-functional teams for on-time, on-budget and on-quality projects related to robertshaw’s strategic initiatives, including new product introductions (npis), supply chain and insourcing opportunities, manufacturing transfers, product va/ve implementation, and other key initiatives of the organization. This role will work closely with all cross-functional teams including corporate staffs, plant leadership teams and r&d for successful launch implementation. This role works with internal and external customers and technical resources to ensure effective execution of all projects.
the project manager reports through the global project management office, in support of key company initiatives. Key skills of an effective project manager include leadership, communications, planning, scheduling, time management, task management, risk management, decision making, quality management, critical thinking, and most importantly driving issue closure and the team to complete the project on time.
responsibilities
* serve as the project leader on moderate complexity product development projects/programs by providing overall leadership, vision, direction, and structure to our cross-functional core team.
* leads the team to deliver on business objectives and ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded.
* partner closely with site engineering and operational leadership to plan, develop, and direct new product introduction activities from inception through successful product transfer into production.
* leads stage gate review presentations and are accountable for overall project execution and ensuring team commitments are met.
* understanding of complex problems. Drives the team to effective resolution.
* demonstrate effective collaborative processes for decision-making. Will help facilitate the team to take decisions and make decisions based on appropriate consideration of the trade-offs.
* establishes milestones and provides organization, leadership, and guidance, serving as a member for those or other business teams, as assigned and drives teams to launch products on time.
* supports engineering in new project assessments and quote development, which may involve visits to customer sites to assess technical requirements, general project requirements, or manufacturing readiness.
* leading cross functional, cross organizational npi projects that deliver solutions to the market.
* manage multiple pmo sponsored projects utilizing formal project management methodologies and tracking tools.
* identify project dependencies and critical paths and resolve bottlenecks.
* develop and manage the project budget to complete development at or below budget.
* demonstrates strong ability to influence downward, horizontally, and upward.
* controls project scope and manage changes; solicits and understands the business/customer needs; rescores the program when a shift is needed. Escalates when needed.
* experience with risk planning, management, risk strategies, and develop an accurate risk-adjusted schedule.
requirements
* bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of program management experience (or related) in a broad multi-functional business (engineering degree is preferable).
* demonstrated track record of successfully managing and leading projects in a pmo environment.
* demonstrated track record of leading within complex organizations. Strong management skills are required.
* business acumen: ability to think from an overall “best for the business” perspective.
* strong analytical skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
* ability to work cooperatively at all levels in matrix environment to build and maintain the positive relationships required to accomplish organizational goals.
* effective decision-making skills - ability to negotiate and balance decisions and priorities across needs of several functional departments.
* makes timely decisions in the face of risk and uncertainty.
* ability to work on multiple projects concurrently with aggressive timelines.
* high degree of computer proficiency in powerpoint, excel, sharepoint, and project management software (smartsheet).
* working knowledge of mrp and manufacturing engineering systems.
* experience in engineered products and/or manufacturing industries (non-it, non-construction).
* project management professional (pmp) certification desired.
* strong knowledge of apqp or similar standard to launch new products.
