the purpose of this role is to head the technology development centre in mexico. Working closely with the lam/global cio’s, the ideal candidate will be a leader with a passion for technology that will build and drive this team to take greater accountability for delivering technology & supporting our world class businesses.
working in close partnership with global businesses and global functions (mss, wholesale, & wpb) to deliver sustainable solutions that balance business, cost, risk and regulatory demands, with growth and innovation. The key goal is to support the business aspirations of the enterprise through all aspects of technology automation, engineering, delivery and support.
a key aspect of the role will be to build the capability of the mexico dev centre to support and deliver for the regional & global businesses.
what you’ll do:
impact on the business
1. define, shape, communicate and lead the execution of the development centre growth & strategy to deliver technology value to business stakeholders.
2. ensure we have the right people with the right talent & skills to deliver in-line with business, control and regulatory priorities
3. drive the adoption of agile & devsecops practices across the mexico engineering teams
4. foster and champion a culture of continuous improvement & engineering excellence
customers / stakeholders
5. accelerate the adoption of value stream alignment with approved future state architecture
6. work closely with colleagues across technology to ensure appropriate resource planning in alignment with project delivery demands
7. collaborate with gsc to optimize and transform operations and achieve higher cost efficiency.
8. ensure appropriate resource mix and maintain effective relationships with local suppliers, managing local ongoing engagements as required
9. representation of the mexico tech dev center at country, regional, global forums.
10. assist lam cio in managing key stakeholders
11. lead initiatives and deliver tech priorities in addition to running the mexico tech dev center.

12. develop a mexico development center executable vision & strategy with the aim of creating a sustainable resourcing structure.
13. provide technical leadership, promote an engineering culture in mexico, in alignment with global tech values and priorities.
14. motivate, guide and mentor the mexico tech teams
15. strong communications skills to develop very close relations with business, lam cio and other key stakeholders
16. drive broader employee engagement across tech mexico
17. help to ensure that the teams are appropriately resourced and at sufficient skills capability
18. influence product delivery and ensure plans are produced and implemented where appropriate
19. assist in the development of the leadership team, providing knowledge and skills in specific areas of expertise, providing coaching and sponsoring training solutions where necessary
20. assist in the control of concurrent projects and resources that may vary in scale and complexity to meet changing objectives.
21. manage relationships at a senior level with the wider hsbc tech team; as well as engaging and managing relationships with third party suppliers
operational effectiveness & control
22. ensure alignment and adherence to it controls and embed operational resilience principles as a standard practice across engineering teams.
23. drive & maximize automation and data quality to ensure the best and latest tools, techniques and processes are adopted
24. accountable for overseeing the safe, secure and sustainable deliveries across the centre. The role holder must work to minimize production outages, and ensure all change is managed in an effective and sustainable manner.
25. responsible for ensuring that all segregation of duty and management self-identified audit issues and other risk and control matters are well managed in location
26. responsible for ensuring all operational targets (okr’s & kci’s) are met including headcount, headcount mix, and budgets.
requirements
what you will need to succeed in the role
27. at least 20 years in tech management, with 15 years’ experience working with senior/executive management, across different geographies & functional areas
28. proven experience in building and growing tech teams to deliver for global stakeholders
29. strong experience of cap markets, wholesale, wealth private banking domains
30. engineering/technology delivery background using devsecops, even better if obtained across multiple domains and ideally within a matrixed organization
31. ability to navigate a complex global environment
32. experience of managing external vendor relationships
33. highly literate, with the ability to distil complex business concepts into simple language
34. comfortable operating in both agile and waterfall software development environments (and variations in between)
35. able to navigate ambiguity and distill clear messages and goals within a matrixed organization
36. highly articulate, with excellent communication skills
37. self-starter, with a desire to own the resolution to the problem
38. learning mindset – able to quickly learn processes, systems, policies to the point of designing changes or compatible solutions
39. experience of functional project management and successful delivery of technical solutions for business / stakeholders
