job description:
sgm is seeking a civil project engineer iii to join our durango office! The ideal candidate has the desire to live, work, and play in western colorado. duties/responsibilities:
* develop initial draft project scopes/budgets with significant input required from others.
* assist with competitive proposal development.
* lead proposal efforts for smaller projects.
* lead development of project calculations and deliverables.
* manage scope, budget, schedule (with oversight) for small-/mid-sized projects or major tasks on large, multidisciplinary projects.
* execute less defined technical and engineering tasks.
* field work and cad drafting responsibilities range from limited to extensive.
* perform part-time construction inspection, and rarely full-time.
* regular client interactions through projects.
* serve as day-to-day primary contact.
* limited contact with client management staff and elected officials.
* pro-actively communicate with supervisor on professional development desires & needs.
* actively participate in team endeavors, and possibly, sgm initiatives and committees.
* provide informal mentoring to engineer i, ii and other junior staff members.
* may have a direct report.
* help secure repeat clients through project performance and acquire new business by recognizing and communicating with supervisor about business opportunities through clients, projects, etc.
* develop close working relationships with client staff and assist with identifying new opportunities with existing clients.
* participate in developing/implementing team business development plans and strategies. May participate in "thought leadership" activities.
required skills/abilities:
* thorough understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
* proficient in computer-assisted design (cad) civil 3d and other design, data recording, and analyzation software.
* proficient with regional drainage design criteria and analytical methodologies.
* thorough understanding of safety regulations related to assigned projects.
* ability to identify and solve complex problems.
* excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* ability to resolve minor conflicts with clients.
* ability to be both creative and analytical.
* extremely detail-oriented and accurate.
education, experience, and other minimum requirements:
* bachelor’s or master's degree in related engineering field required.
* current colorado pe or ability to obtain in a timely manner.
* 4 - 10 years of experience.
* valid driver's license.
physical requirements:
* prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
* must be able to travel to various project sites.
