*job description*:
position summary:
position will support new product validation and vehicle system level testing including specification of test instrumentation and sensors, installation of test vehicle instrumentation, monitoring data acquisition systems, data retrieval, and summarizing and reporting of results.
essential functions:
- design vehicle instrumentation and data acquisition instrumentations, select appropriate sensors and acquisition units, and perform installation on a vehicle.
- identify and implement improvements to testing methods, data collection, data analysis, and procedures for continuous improvement of validation testing.
- work closely with product design teams across bendix and global locations to integrate products from multiple design teams into planned vehicle and track tests.
- troubleshoot vehicle systems and test instrumentation, utilizing vehicle diagnostics as required.
- develop and document test procedures for track and vehicle testing for road mileage accumulation, assist with failure mode evaluations, and test cases for vehicle functional and durability testing to support product teams.
- support design and fabrication of vehicle fixtures and brackets and vehicle modifications needed to install test products and data acquisition units.
- track vehicles on test, perform periodic test product inspections, retrieve data from acquisition systems and data loggers, and maintain test documentation.
- prepare test reports, presentations, status updates for design product teams, and management.
- interface across organization with multiple agile/scrum teams to coordinate actions, vehicle modifications, product installations, testing, schedules, and communication of results.
- interface with local test tracks, vehicle drivers, and oem customers as needed.
- able to travel to test sites as necessary including.
willing to travel > 25%.
- has appreciable latitude for independent action and decision.

- strong problem solving skills, experience with 8d, red x, and six sigma tool sets a plus.

- ability to read blue prints and electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- good organizational and project management skills.
- demonstrated mechanical aptitude or experience in hands-on position, hands-on experience with testing automotive or commercial vehicles a plus.
*knowledge*:
- knowledge of vehicle pneumatic and electrical control systems, and diagnostic interfaces.
- knowledge and experience with j1939 can systems and vehicle communications and electronics.
- knowledge and experience with vehicle telematics, and driver assistance functions a plus.
- knowledge of commercial truck and braking system regulations a plus.
- knowledge of commercial vehicle air brake systems and stability systems a plus.
- knowledge of instrument calibration a plus.
*experience*:
- 3-5 years experience with direct test instrumentation, data acquisition system construction and data retrieval.
experience with telematic systems a plus.
- experience with vehicle track testing, vehicle road mileage accumulation or use case profile development a plus.
- participation in the fmea and dvp&r process.
*education*:
- b.s.
in mechanical, electrical, or controls engineering is required.
- advanced training in commercial vehicle regulations, operation, or maintenance beneficial.
