We are seeking a mechanical engineer with a minimum of 4 years of experience working with transportation and aviation, higher education (university), k-12 schools (primary schools), corporate, healthcare, restaurants, and hospitality in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, and fire protection design for our building design group.
responsibilities
our mechanical engineers at ssoe are essential, working closely with our project teams, project managers, and clients to implement the designs in both 2d and 3d environments, often working out the practical distribution solutions and coordinating with multiple disciplines.
mechanical engineers can expect to support projects involving hvac, plumbing systems (domestic, sanitary, natural gas, compressed air, and medical gases), and fire protection systems (wet, dry, and clean agent). They also cover a wide range of expertise, such as calculating sizing and routing paths of ducts and pipes and producing drawings from provided information.
* provide engineering and 3d revit support for multiple projects that include hvac, ductwork, piping, plumbing, and fire protection.
* receive instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and assistance in deriving possible solutions to unusual problems.
* apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices for hvac, plumbing, and fire protection design in various industries.
* perform calculations of hvac loads, ductwork static pressure, pump head, ventilation requirements, energy code compliance, etc.
* perform calculations of domestic (cold and hot), sanitary, natural gas, compressed air, medical gas, and domestic water booster pumps.
* perform calculations of fire protection systems (booster pump sizing, pipe sizing, etc.).
* review work with supervisor or engineer of record to ensure the application of sound engineering practices and professional judgment.
* exercise limited judgment in making adaptations or modifications to design concepts.
* may write portions of specifications and assist in preparing cost estimates.
* responsible for reviewing construction submittals for conformance with the contract documents/design.
qualifications
* bachelor's degree in engineering
* 4+ years of professional experience with similar projects
* familiarity with applicable design codes and standards (international codes, nfpa, nec, ashrae, etc.).
* experience with revit software is preferred.
* strong communication skills and ability to facilitate professional relationships.
* ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment (in office and remotely).
* experience mainly in building design related to the projects described.
* fluency in english, both written and spoken, is necessary.
