job summary:
in this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s civil/structural aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s civil/structural aspects are met.
major responsibilities:
* scheduling, performing or coordinating detailed phases of civil/structural engineering work for a global business unit, project or staff group to include preparation of original designs, plans, details and specifications for structures, buildings, roads, railways etc.
* participating in the design, development and modification of civil/structural components and processes using relevant engineering department procedures (edp), design standards and guides, bechtel standard application programs (bsap) and design control checklist (dccl) and design review notices (drn).
* designing structures using knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics and materials engineering.
* determining the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry and concrete to ensure the appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements.
* originating and verifying structural engineering deliverables such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications and material requests.
* analyzing problems with conflicting design requirements, outlining ideas and possible solutions.
* assisting in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts and order changes.
* providing assistance to project and construction management to identify and comply with civil/structural project requirements and address issues that arise during project execution.
* planning, coordinating, or preparing equipment, job, and material specifications, bid evaluations, and award recommendations.
* preparing procurement and subcontract application documents and conducting technical tender evaluations associated with award recommendations.
education and experience requirements:
requires a bachelor’s degree in civil structural engineering (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
required knowledge and skills:
* career-level position within field.
* manage the chilean design codes and american design codes (nch 2369, aisc, aci, asce)
* seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.
* professional with an understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of issues.
* intermediate english required. Advanced english preferable.
