An electrical design engineer (ede) at sensata is responsible for electrical schematic design, product development/validation, and thorough documentation according to automotive development process (apqp) and industry safety standards (iso26262 & obdii).
tasks include electrical design and validation testing to ensure product performance throughout product life while exposed to harsh automotive environment such as extreme temperatures, emc/emi and other electrical/mechanical/chemical/climatic stresses.
- bs or higher degree in electrical engineering or other electronics-based scientific degree
- minimum of two years electrical design experience, specifically:
- edes own the schematic design of circuits, so electrical fundamentals (filters, amplifiers, diodes, passives circuits) are essential
- product validation testing
- concept-to-production lifecycle
- the ability to translate customer requirements into reliable electrical designs
- familiarity with common product design methodologies (dfss, dfmea, etc.)
- experience with sensor interfaces and signal conditioning
- design for emc/emi & esd robustness
- familiarity with pcb design process such as schematic & layout capture software, fabrication, assembly
- familiarity with common testing specifications (sae, iso, ce, ul, etc.)
- software skills: such as c/c++, matlab, vba, labview for automation and data processing
- hands on attitude with the ability to operate standard electrical test equipment
- strong project management and product development skills including
- estimating timelines and understanding design activity dependencies
- design to cost
- a history of on-time and on-budget product validation
- documentation
- responsibilities also include regular customer interface as well as ownership of program budget, product unit cost, delivery time, manufacturability and post-release activities
- qualities
- comfortable managing several ongoing design activities in different stages of development
- the ability to work autonomously with mínimal guidance
- pride/ownership of designs and work products
- strong interpersonal and communications skills are key to attributes in sensata's cross functional and global team environment - we work together to solve problems, both internally and with customers.
