the network engineer is responsible for the design, provision, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure. This person is expected to be a subject matter expert, leading and delivering multiple projects for traditional and converged network technologies.
additionally, the role involves input into network architecture to ensure the appropriate technology strategy meets business requirements. The individual should be a highly qualified network engineer with up-to-date, hands-on skills and the ability to interact with distributed engineers, customers, and senior executive staff.
general accountabilities
* anticipates potential problems associated with network infrastructure or service-level trends.
* handles multiple tasks with changing priorities, communicating scope and schedule changes to all stakeholders.
* creates network architectures and designs, including architectural standards, principles, general design documentation, bills of material, and configurations.
* assists business analysts in resolving reported customer issues.
* creates and maintains system documentation and infrastructure drawings.
* reviews system logs to ensure optimal performance.
* performs additional duties as assigned.
* engineers, configures, installs, maintains, and upgrades:
* networks: lan, wan, wlan, sd-wan.
* security solutions: cisco security solutions, firewalls, ips appliances.
* provides technical support to various customers and departments/users.
* reviews broad and potentially service-impacting anomalies.
* researches, evaluates, and recommends hardware and software solutions.
* acts as an escalation point for network-related customer issues from the customer service center.
* plans implementation activities before installing network hardware.
* has familiarity with networking tools, such as:
* demonstrates expert knowledge of:
* wlan controllers (wlcs), cisco ise, ipsec vpns, cisco asr and isr routers, cisco catalyst and nexus switches, and cisco sd-wan.
* shows proficiency in:
* routing/switching: bgp, eigrp, ospf, dmvpn, mpls, vlans, stp, vtp, ios, ios-xe, nx-os.
* has a strong understanding of:
* server and network virtualization technologies (esx, asa virtual contexts, vrfs, vpcs, vdcs).
* tcp/ip, snmp, netflow, and network management.
* implements and supports network security solutions in compliance with best practices and company policies.
job qualifications
education
* bachelor's degree preferred.
* itsm foundation training required.
* ccnp enterprise infrastructure (routing & switching and wireless) certification or equivalent experience.
technical skills
* 7+ years of experience in network engineering within large enterprise environments or msps.
* msp and consulting experience is highly preferred.
* expertise in cisco routing and switching technologies (nexus experience preferred).
* experience with:
* expert-level cisco configuration and troubleshooting skills across multiple platforms:
* cisco wireless, firewall asa, firepower, routing and switching, cisco ise, site-to-site vpns, cisco sd-wan.
