position overview:
we are seeking a highly experienced landside execution manager to oversee all the intermodal activities such as the gate and rail operations at our container terminal. This role is responsible for managing the inbound and outbound movement of containers via the federal public service (gate) and railway modes, acting as a liaison between customers, government authorities, shipping lines, trucking, and rail transport companies. You will ensure that operations run efficiently and safely, meeting key performance indicators (kpis), and complying with apmtlzc policies and procedures.

key responsibilities:
* team management: lead, motivate, and guide the gate and rail teams to achieve high performance. Establish clear tasks and objectives to be accomplished through efficient action plans.
* operational execution: ensure the smooth execution of daily tasks, focusing on maximizing productivity across gate, inspections, and rail areas, while effectively utilizing equipment and personnel.
* logistics planning: oversee internal logistics to guarantee uninterrupted operations at the gate and rail areas. Optimize available space for inspections.
* safety & compliance: ensure all areas (gate, inspections, rail) adhere to strict safety protocols. Create and maintain a safe work environment for all personnel.
* operational excellence: drive process improvements for gate operations, inspections, and rail functions. Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies and propose solutions to streamline operations.
* rail operations: lead and develop the rail operation plans across the terminal. Coordinate rail movements to/from apm terminals, ensuring all operations meet key performance metrics and support crane productivity.
* stakeholder relations: build and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders such as trucking companies, customs brokers, shipping lines, port authorities, and government agencies.
* performance monitoring: ensure key performance indicators (kpis) are met for gate, inspection, and rail activities. Monitor performance closely and report regularly to the terminal coo.
* risk management & safety: conduct risk assessments for safety, customs compliance, and security measures to prevent work accidents, container delivery issues, or errors related to customs regulations.
* process improvement: continuously suggest improvements to methodologies, processes, and measurements to increase efficiency in gate and rail operations.
* environmental responsibility: oversee the implementation of safety and environmental policies. Ensure that all environmental practices, such as waste management and handling hazardous materials, comply with regulations.
key requirements:
* education: preferred bachelor’s degree in engineering, logistics, or a related field.
* certifications/knowledge:
* lean practitioner – well knowledge on the lean methodology.
* proficiency in english.
* leadership skills, effective communication, and conflict resolution.
* experience:
* 5+ years of leadership experience in terminal operations within port environments.
* desired: experience as a container dispatcher or in managerial roles related to logistics and transportation.
* preferred: experience with shipping lines, customs agencies, and logistics management.
* technical skills:
* proficiency in microsoft office suite.
* knowledge of terminal port operations and supply chain.
* understanding of workplace safety regulations.
