objective: perform product engineering functions as directed by the engineering manager, with a focus on manufacturing and quality activities.
responsibilities:
* support product strategy activities as directed by engineering manager.
* working with the product engineering and manufacturing teams, assist in prototype / dv build events to understand how the product will need to be assembled. Collect feedback and work with the team on identified opportunities to improve manufacturability and error-proofing.
* perform root cause analysis for validation testing or production quality issues.
* perform design review by test result (drbtr) teardown analysis of passing and failing test parts.
* work closely with advanced manufacturing and quality engineers on evaluating all phases of new equipment construction, including error-proofing, capability, first-time quality (ftq), ergonomics, capacity / throughput, uptime, etc.
* work closely with plant manufacturing and quality engineers on evaluating and improving the first-time quality (ftq) and capability of existing assembly lines including error-proofing, line output, uptime, etc.
* use lessons learned to improve product design using dfm/dfa techniques, ergonomic and workflow process evaluations, and lean manufacturing concepts.
* review dfmea and pfmea documents for each project. Confirm that all safety critical failure modes are identified and appropriately passed-through to the applicable assembly and detection steps ensuring that the assembly lines have robust controls in place.
* document and maintain plant layout, spa assembly cell locations and workflow for offsite product engineering team reference.
* generate and implement cost reduction ideas.
* use engineering tools and methods to assure design quality, support others in their use and learning of these tools.
* monitor individual program status and report this information to engineering manager and lead product engineer.
* utilize the strattec program development process (pdp) for program implementation.
* utilize the strattec knowledge management system (skms) for communicating engineering-related program deliverables.
* report progress to manager both verbally and in writing as required.
* initiate engineering change notices for engineering changes.
* periodic travel to customer, suppliers, and other strattec facilities is required (~10%).
requirements:
* bachelor of science in mechanical engineering or related.
* 5 years minimum experience in product development required.
* experience with manufacturing and quality processes (automotive preferred).
* experience in project leadership preferred.
* bilingual: english/spanish.
knowledge:
* interpret engineering drawings.
* mechanical aptitude to work with tools in tearing down product assemblies.
* dfmea, dfm, dfa.
* gd&t principles.
* design for manufacturability/assembly (electro-mechanical mechanisms, metal stampings, plastic injection molded parts, die cast parts).
* quality tools (8ds, root cause analysis, red x).
