job overview:
we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated technical account engineer to work closely with customer engineering departments and our internal sales and quality teams. In this hybrid role, you will ensure the successful design, implementation, and delivery of die castings. A deep understanding of die casting processes, paired with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, is key to managing customer relationships and technical specifications.
key responsibilities:
* customer collaboration: act as the primary technical liaison between customer engineering teams and northwest die casting’s internal departments (sales, quality, and production).
* review & design of castings: evaluate casting designs and provide feedback, ensuring alignment with customer specifications and manufacturing capabilities.
* balloon drawings & feasibility reports: create and review balloon drawings, ensuring all technical aspects are covered, and conduct thorough feasibility studies.
* carbon emission & mechanical testing reports: prepare and analyze reports to ensure compliance with automotive and environmental standards.
* fmea (failure mode and effects analysis): conduct fmeas for new projects, identify potential issues, and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
* new product introduction (npi): manage the introduction of new products, ensuring customer requirements are met while maintaining high quality and efficient production processes.
* others: processing mapping, create technical proposals, and stay up to date on industry standards such as mils, iso, astm, etc.
required expertise & skills:
* metallurgy & materials science: solid understanding of metallurgical principles, materials science, and die casting processes.
* inspection methods: experience with x-ray, ct, impregnation, and leak inspections (air and helium) to ensure quality and defect-free products.
* automotive standards & certifications: familiarity with iatf 16949 and iso 14001 standards, technical cleanliness automotive standards, cqi-27 special processing: casting system assessment, cqi-9 heat treatment.
* design skills: proficiency in gd&t (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) and die casting part & mold design.
* cnc machining expertise: familiarity with mastercam (cnc 4 & 5-axis machining) for precision machining and part production.
* manufacturing economics: understanding of die casting and secondary process costs, including material and manufacturing cost analysis.
preferred qualifications (a plus):
* casting process expertise: familiarity with semi-solid casting process and thixomolding, with experience working on high-integrity structural castings.
* magnesium experience: knowledge of magnesium die casting and associated challenges in the automotive industry.
* low gravity casting: experience with low gravity casting techniques, including permanent mold and sand casting.
* high integrity structural castings: experience in producing high-quality, structural castings for demanding automotive applications.
qualifications:
* education: bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, metallurgy, or a related field.
* experience: minimum of 5 years of experience in die casting, automotive engineering, or a similar technical field, with strong exposure to customer management and cross-functional team collaboration.
* skills: strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills. Fluency in both spanish and english is preferred.
* background: experience in automotive die casting and familiarity with the manufacturing environment is essential. Experience in technical sales and customer-facing roles is highly desirable.
