as a buyer i at terex/genie, based in bothell, washington, you'll play a pivotal role in assuring manufacturing receives quality parts/services on time. Perform specialized technical skills in the purchase, delivery, quality, and packaging of materials/equipment, and services for the company's manufacturing and engineering operations. Coordinate material flow, conversion of vendors to terex/genie material management systems, and timely distribution of materials.
what you’ll do
* researches, compiles, and participates in writing specifications for products, materials, and supplies used for production.
* researches, contacts, and selects potential vendors to receive proposals for price, quality, and timeliness of delivery. Makes independent judgement on purchases up to authorized dollar limits and specifications. Recommends current and/or new vendors. Conveys delivery, inventory, and quality goals to vendors.
* establishes and communicates manufacturing projections and receiving patterns so that vendors can anticipate needs and meet requirements. Learns vendor cycles and procedures to optimize delivery time.
* works closely with engineering and sales to identify engineering change orders. Contacts vendors to adjust delivery in support of changes.
* procures urgent materials through the most effective means, considering quality, availability, cost, delivery time, and probability of continued support.
* participates with other materials team members to evaluate purchasing agreements and contracts. Recommends changes and consolidations that contribute to manufacturing’s requirements and support just-in-time philosophy.
* develops and maintains long-term productive relationships with vendors. Develops communications and feedback links. Establishes and maintains a network of information flow and reporting.
* maintains up-to-date understanding of the latest thinking in concepts such as total quality management, lean thinking, single piece flow, and just-in-time.
* assists in reviewing, revising and originating purchase specifications.
* researches and evaluates material usage then establishes ordering criteria to assure adequate but not excessive inventory on hand. Applies historical usage trends plus backlog information to forecast procurement needs. Communicates same with vendors.
* facilitates communication between suppliers and manufacturing team when evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolving conflicts.
* coordinates purchasing services with other manufacturing support services.
what you’ll bring
* a bachelor’s degree in a business or engineering field is preferred.
* requires two to five years technical purchasing and product/vendor selection experience encompassing a wide variety of categories of goods and services for a manufacturing environment.
* experience and/or training in just-in-time, total quality management, kanban, single piece flow, and lean thinking is preferred.
