what to expect in this role
we are seeking a data architect (gcp) who combines strategic vision, technical expertise, and hands-on coding skills to lead our data engineering initiatives. This role requires someone who can design and drive enterprise-level data architectures, lead high-performing teams, and actively contribute to development and code reviews to ensure scalability, security, and performance.
as a key leader in the organization, you will define and implement data strategies, frameworks, and architectures that align with business goals while maintaining a hands-on approach to technical execution.
strategic data leadership
1. define and drive the company’s data architecture strategy, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency.
2. provide technical leadership in designing enterprise data platforms, including cloud-based solutions (aws, azure, or gcp).
3. partner with c-level executives, business units, and engineering teams to align data initiatives with business goals.
4. write, review, and optimize high-performance data pipelines (etl/elt) in python, scala, java, or sql.
5. oversee data modeling, warehouse/lake house design, and real-time streaming architectures.
6. actively conduct code reviews, performance tuning, and architectural guidance for the engineering team.
7. lead and mentor data engineers, architects, and developers, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture.
8. establish and enforce best practices for data governance, security, and compliance (gdpr, ccpa, hipaa, etc.).
9. drive the adoption of modern data technologies and methodologies, ensuring continuous innovation.
architecture & technical execution
1. architect scalable, fault-tolerant data platforms on google cloud, gcp.
2. design data integration patterns, api-driven architectures, and streaming solutions (kafka, spark, flink).
3. optimize data lake, warehouse, and lake house architectures using snowflake, databricks, bigquery, or redshift.
4. implement metadata-driven data governance frameworks and support data mesh or decentralized data architectures.
requirements and technical skills
1. 8+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or software engineering.
2. strong hands-on coding ability in python, java, scala, or sql.
3. deep expertise in big data, cloud data platforms, and distributed computing.
4. experience leading high-performing engineering teams, driving technical strategy, and mentoring talent.
5. proficiency in etl/elt, data pipelines, and orchestration frameworks (apache airflow, dbt, prefect).
6. strong knowledge of data governance, compliance, and security best practices.
7. experience working in highly regulated industries (finance, healthcare, insurance, etc.) is a plus.
preferred qualifications
1. experience implementing data mesh or data fabric architectures.
2. prior experience in multi-cloud environments (aws, azure, gcp).
3. strong background in ci/cd, devops, and infrastructure-as-code (terraform, kubernetes, docker).
