we are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of
retail credit risk (lam) & control oversight manager (us)
role purpose:
retail credit risk (lam) & control oversight manager (us)act as a risk lead into the delivery of strategic plans for business/functional unit and be tasked with turning strategic plans into operational objectives. Proactively identify key retail credit processing risks and common issues in the regional portfolios and perform independent ‘review and challenge’ as part of risk stewardship to ensure appropriate solutions are being deployed in a timely manner to manage the risks appropriately. Identify key opportunities to strengthen risk management, size benefits, and engage stakeholders to prioritise and sponsor projects to realise opportunities to minimise processing risks.
main activities:
1. retail credit risk (lam) & control oversight manager (us) will hold most or all of these responsibilities:
2. provide visable, strong and clear leadership in implementing the risk management enhancement framework initiaitves to strengthen the retail credit risk (rcr) management control environment.
3. dispatch the regional risk stewardship responsibilities for rcr risk/controls and credit practices across hsbc lam & us’s retail banking operations.
4. drive increased rcr risk steward engagement in region/market, to demonstrate proactive oversight, review and challenge of the rcr processing control environment and financial risk entity level control, including establishing regular touchpoints with market risk stewards.
5. provide specialized guidance and support for risk and control trigger event reviews and ensure alignment to the refreshed risk taxonomy control library for rcr processing risks.
6. hsbc group control framework including both entity level controls (elc) and and non-financial risk controls are critical to ensuring the bank systemically and methodically mitigates inherent risk in the provision of retail lending products.
7. the bank’s global principles, risk management framework and non-financial risk and control frameworks follow 5 key steps to ensure we grow our business safely, deliver fair outcomes for customers, and maintain orderly and transparent operation of financial markets. The role involves supporting risk stewardship of these 5 steps within rcr: i) define and enable, ii) identify & assess, iii) manage, iv) aggregate & report and v) govern for retail credit risk processes and financial risk (retail credit risk) elc.
8. demonstrates strong knowledge of the people, processes and systems invoved in the management of retail credit risk activities through the credit lifecycle.
9. prior experience working in a retail credit risk management role or equivalent risk and control role within a business.
10. critical problem solving skills, able to balance structured solutions versus pragmatism as appropriate to business needs.
11. strong prioritisation skills and be able to perform multi-tasks under pressure, to meet challenging deadlines, whilst retaining a keen eye for detail.
12. ability to clearly articulate the bank’s global principles, risk management framework and non-financial risk frameworks and be able to demonstrate how these are embedded in the management of retail credit risk.
13. excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to negotiate and work effectively with senior business leaders across geographies, with group and other functions, in particular first line of defense and control owners.
14. implements significant strategic interventions at pace to significantly improve processing risk mitigation of portfolios.
15. evaluates and critically challenges market credit risk management decisions and practices within the control environment.
16. responsible for standardizing regional approach, methodologies and assessment across markets and upskill the markets where needed.

17. established expertise in managing retail portfolios with preferential experience in managing credit risk, underwriting and/or collections operations.
