* the lead accountant provides accounting and support to the accounting manager.
what you'll do
* oversee account analysis, reconciliations, and preparation of journal entries to the general ledger
* manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings, payments, and supporting schedules
* maintain the tax calendar to ensure all filings/payments are done timely to ensure fines and penalties are not incurred
* supervise the day-to-day maintenance and projects associated with those areas of responsibility
* responsible for establishing and maintaining strong internal controls to reduce risk of fraud and ensure strong internal controls over financial reporting that are in alignment with local laws and regulations and the company’s policies and us regulations (such as generally accepted accounting principles, sarbanes oxley, pci & pii)
* stay abreast of regulatory labor and tax changes and work with peers to incorporate them into schedules, reports, and monthly procedures
* provide technical direction and training to internal customers as necessary
* identify and implement process improvements and automation efforts; working with internal customers and external suppliers to achieve results
* assist the accounting manager with projects as requested and ad-hoc reporting as necessary
* perform other duties as required
all you'll need for success
minimum qualifications- education & prior job experience
* university degree with a focus in accounting education/experience
* at least 3 years of experience in the related field
* experience with international business practices, tax and labor laws
* fluent in verbal and written english
* ability to work flexible hours when required
preferred qualifications- education & prior job experience
* cpa, mba or equivalent education/certification
* demonstrated knowledge of airline accounting practices
* demonstrated knowledge of sap
skills, licenses & certifications
* proficient with pc and microsoft office software (e.g., excel, word, access, and powerpoint)
* demonstrated excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
* must possess critical thinking skills as well as being a strategic thinker
* commitment to high standards, integrity and ethics
* strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks
* ability to deal with confidential subject matter
* self-motivated with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision
