position title: certified peer specialist
department: behavioral health clinic
reports to: director of behavioral health
overall responsibility: the certified peer specialist shall be considered a member of the treatment team and shall participate in staff meeting discussions regarding individual care of persons served.
certified peer specialists may not be assigned an independent client caseload.
the purpose of peer support services is to assist individuals served in their recovery from behavioral health disorders.
the individualized treatment plan of the person served should determine the focus of this service.
key tasks and responsibilities: develop rapport with clients.identify and develop treatment plans with clients on caseload.aid with open access and crisis processes.provide guidance and skills for those in recovery.aid with services and access to services in client's community.work with an integrated team to help meet all of client's mental health and physical needs.documentation of encounters with clients.report crisis situations to crisis team and director of behavioral health.meet with clients in the community, homes, and office settings.transport clients to services and other places to aid with goals.aid with conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.utilization of personal experience to help others in recovery.encourage and inspire motivation for change with clients.skills and attributes: highly flexible and creative person who can work with a variety of clientele.willing to work in a structured environment with a varied caseload of persons with mental illness.strong interpersonal and crisis intervention skills required.strong verbal and written communication skills required.ability to organize and maintain written documentation according to agency requirements and in a timely fashion.general computer skills and the ability to use an electronic health record to document services.ability to sit for extended periods of time and occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.physical requirements: must be able to work at a computer for long periods of time each day.
