the water, environment and climate (wec) portfolio, based in vienna, and with offices based globally is part of the unops global portfolio office. The portfolio has built strong partnerships and is effectively managing a portfolio of over 500 million usd over the last 15 years to support key initiatives with fund management, project implementation and administrative support.
wec effectively operationalizes partners' agendas with global approaches, as well as regional and country specific activities focused on climate action, protection and conservation of the environment.
the unep/gef project “implementation of the strategic action program of the gulf of mexico large marine ecosystem” (gef id 6952; 2020-2024 – gom sap implementation project) is a 4-year project specifically aimed at facilitating the implementation of the mexico/u.s. endorsed transboundary diagnostic analysis (tda – 2011) and strategic action plan (sap – 2013) for the integrated management of the gom-lme.
goal: the goal of the project is to address the three main challenges identified by the sap, i.e., controlling and reducing pollution; recovering living marine resources; and rehabilitating marine and coastal ecosystems.
objective: the project is specifically aimed at facilitating the implementation of the mexico/u.s. endorsed transboundary diagnostic analysis (tda – 2011) and strategic action plan (sap – 2013) for the integrated management of the gom-lme.
the gom-lme sap project is seeking to hire a communication officer for its project coordination unit (pcu). The communication officer will work together with the gom-lme project coordinator and other pcu staff and will be responsible for all communications priorities, outputs and activities of the project, ensuring the dissemination of the project in various media and in collaboration with current and potential partners and stakeholders.
the communication officer will support the delivery of the project’s component 4: “monitoring, evaluation and knowledge management”, in close coordination with the project coordinating unit (pcu) and other project partners, and in line with unops project communication standards, unep and gef requirements.
under this component, the communication officer will support the development of material, such as videos, newsletters, notes and relevant media in close collaboration with the pcu and implementing partners of the project. S/he will support the m&e plan, the development and implementation of the communication strategy of the project, website inputs and development of workshops and meetings material.
* this is a home-based position with occasional visits to the office required for activities needing communications support such as event preparations.
* additionally, the incumbent will need to have your own laptop, equipped with all the relevant software.
*this is a retainer national vacancy / position for twelve 12 months, maximum of 220 working days.
* as this is a local position, in order to be eligible, the incumbent should be a national of mexico or have a valid residence permit in the country.
